ʚ UV Resin vs Polyurethane Coating- Which one to choose?
UV resin:
- Glass-like shine: Gives jewelry a gorgeous, thick, professional "domed" glossy finish.
- Extremely durable: Scratch-resistant, waterproof, and won't chip if you drop it.
- Long-lasting: The finish will never peel off
- Sturdier pieces: The thick coating keeps thin clay parts from bending or snapping.
- BUT it's more difficult and dangerous to work with so it costs more
- also if you have very sensitive skin it might cause irritation.
Polyurethane:
- Quicker & Cheaper to use: More budget friendly option
- Lightweight compared to UV resin
- More Eco-friendly: Made with safer, water-based ingredients rather than harsh chemicals.
- More Natural look: Protects the clay without making it look fake or plasticky.
- Less durable and resistant than UV resin but durable enough to withstand normal everyday use
- You should keep it away from harsh chemicals & excessive water as it's water based!
- Has a flatter, less shiny look
No coating:
- No varnish/Uv resin
- For air dry clay we don't recommend it as it's not resistant enough for everyday wear
- For polymer clay it's fine since polymer clay is more durable
